St Kitts and Nevis govt welcomes Comprehensive Disaster Management Audit

St Kitts and Nevis: The government has ‘proudly’ announced that the Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM) Audit of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Nevis Disaster Management Department (NDMD) had been started. The project would, reportedly, assist in the reduction of the risks and losses posed by natural disasters and calamities.

On March 4, 2022, the National Disaster Coordinator of NEMA – Abdias Samuel, mentioned, “Our department is delighted that the process of the Comprehensive Disaster Management Audit has begun. The project will, indeed, bring valuable contributions towards the federation”.

The national coordinator further stated, “This exercise is exciting and critical, will also shed light on the weaknesses and strengths of St Kitts and Nevis Disaster Management framework. The practice will drive the outcomes, with the help of preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation as the catalytic foundation”.

The national coordinator of NEMA further mentioned that the Disaster Management Offices of both federations – St Kitts and Nevis, have been working in collaboration for the betterment of citizens of the nations.

He was quoted as, “Surely, we all have understood the importance of possessing an all-of-society approach to crisis management as a small island state.”

“The all-inclusive approach is visible within the agenda as the department has integrated our colleagues from Nevis to participate in leading roles in our efforts to build national resilience to safeguard lives as well as livelihoods of our citizens and residents,” he added.

He further thanked the CDEMA for committing resources and expertise towards building the Federation’s disaster management capabilities against all the susceptible threats.
