Basseterre: As the new variants of the COVID-19 virus are emerging in the world, the countries in the Caribbean region have sped up their vaccination drive. In St Kitts and Nevis, around 76.2% of the targeted population has received a required number of the COVID-19 vaccine doses and are now fully immunised, as of January 16, 2021.
The data was shared by the – Ministry of Health and Wellness in its recent COVID-19 update report, as per which around 81.8% of the total targeted population of the twin-island Federation has taken their first jabs of the COVID-19 vaccine.
At least 7.6% of St Kitts and Nevis eligible population has taken their booster shots, according to the data shared in the – report of the health ministry.
The health ministry’s report further notes:
- Total number of doses administered in St Kitts and Nevis: 56,269
- Total number of doses administered in St Kitts: 42,835
- Total number of doses administered in Nevis: 13,434
- Number of Booster shots administered in twin-island Federation: 2,517
- Statistics of fully vaccinated individuals: 25,884
Meanwhile, around 17.4% of the total population has received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, whereas 14.9% of the eligible children population is vaccinated by taking two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
As per to the health ministry’s report, a total of 51 new cases of the COVID-19 virus were recorded in St Kitts and Nevis on January 15, 2022, taking the toll of the active infections to 1309. Meantime, the twin-island Federation has witnessed a total of 3596 recoveries.
Since the start of the outbreak, a total of 4933 confirmed cases of the deadliest COVID-19 mutant has been recorded in St Kitts and Nevis, of which 4206 were recorded in St Kitts and 727 were recorded in Nevis island.
While, a total of twenty-eight individuals have lost their lives to the contagious viral disease in the twin-island Federation.
