St Lucia: The Saint Lucia Labour Party once again expressed its gratitude for the donation of 3000 doses of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine from Barbados and Dominica’s administration to the people of St Lucia.
The SLP is in full assistance of a vaccination program and had called for its immediate rollout from December 2020.
Furthermore, SLP added, aware of the limited number of vaccines available, the Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the SLP, although grateful for the Ministry of Health’s invitation to receive the vaccine, affirms that all healthcare workers should be given priority at this need of the hour.
Hon. Philip J. Pierre wishes to ensure the population that he will take the vaccine to strengthen public confidence, as he had previously stated. However, St Lucia’s citizen should be put first, particularly those on the frontline, as they are the most involved in treating COVID-19 patients.
The donation of vaccines will be able to prevent just 1500 persons and should be given to those who regularly place their lives and that of their families at risk.
The SLP remarks that in the first phase of the vaccination allocation that approximately 5500 persons will need to be prevented over a two-three month period.
Securing the supplementary vaccines should be a priority for this government in order to securely inoculate high-risk and high exposure individuals first, then the remaining population.
The SLP also acknowledges the need for more education on the vaccine using all means of media available both in English and Kwéyòl. The success of the vaccine can only be obtained if 70% of the population receives the vaccines and therefore requires the buy-in of residents.
The Saint Lucia Labour Party remains committed to the successful rollout of the vaccination process and will continue to inspire and educate St Lucians about the significance of volunteering to accept the two doses.
On every social media, SLP used ‘putting you first’ as the agenda of this party.
