Saint Lucia PM Pierre congratulated Comrade PM Roosevelt Skerrit for winning elections 2022

Saint Lucia: Prime Minister of Saint Lucia Philip J Pierre has congratulated Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, on claiming the landslide victory in the snap general elections 2022.

He also congratulated the Dominica Labour Party for winning the general elections for the sixth consecutive time.

He posted an all-smile image with PM Roosevelt Skerrit and stated, “Victory for Labour in Dominica. Congratulations, Comrade Roosevelt Skerrit and Team Dominica Labour Party.”

With this post, the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia showed his support to the neighbouring country. Dominica and Saint Lucia share a diplomatic relationship since 1979, and since then, both countries have enjoyed cooperative relations. It is anticipated that both countries will continue to work together to fight against global issues, such as climate change.

The election process in the Commonwealth of Dominica was held on December 6, 2022, and results were announced on the evening of the same day. Dominica Labour Party claimed a landslide victory and won 19 seats out of 21; the remaining two seats were bagged by independent candidates. The election process in the country started at 7 am and ended at 5 pm.

The highest number of votes have been gathered by Cassani C Laville from Mahaut Constituency of Dominica, and he will be serving as Parliamentary Representative for the next five years. As per the electoral commission of Dominica, Laville won 2016 votes (96.18%). On the same breadth, the second highest votes have been received by Vince Henderson from Grand Bay Constituency. Henderson claimed 1139 votes (97.60%).

It is DLP’s sixth consecutive victory under the leadership of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, who has been serving as PM since 2004. In his victory speech, Skerrit thanked the people of Dominica for their trust and support and promised to continue to work hard for all citizens of the country.

Dominica witnessed a lot of political twists and turns during the elections phase as the opposition – United Workers Party, boycotted the elections and decided not to contest in it.
