Royal Caribbean collabs with Sitka Dock Company to install Starlink terminals

The Royal Caribbean Cruising Group stepped forward to install Starlink terminals to provide better internet service in the town of Sitka, Alaska. The cruising group has collaborated with the local leaders and the Sitka Dock Company to situate five terminals for free connectivity.

The aim of the collaboration between the regional stakeholders of Sitka and the Royal Caribbean Group is to overcome the widespread outages in the region. The town has observed issues in relation to the internet service, which interrupted the workflow and growth of the locals.

As such, the authorities and the local leaders have taken several steps to focus on the betterment of the residents in Sitka. At the same time, they have also extended significant support to the businesses. The Alaska-based Sitka Dock Company was selected to provide ground assistance to the initiative.

The places selected for the new terminals for internet coverage are at Harrigan Centennial Hall by the City and Borough of Sitka and at Sitka Sound Cruise Terminal, the Sitka Bazaar in central Sitka. The services are intended to go live for free access to satellite-based internet in the town.

Preston Carnahan, Assistant Vice President of West Coast destination for Royal Caribbean Group, said on the project, “We know the crucial role internet access plays in staying connected as a community and business.”

AVP Preston Carnahan also shared his views about the development, “At Royal Caribbean Group, we are dedicated to doing all we can to support locals as they navigate Internet outages in Sitka.”

Chris McGraw of Sitka Dock Company also expressed his gratitude in his words, “We are truly grateful for the support and Internet terminals Royal Caribbean Group shared with our community during this challenging time.”

He added, “Over the years, their collaboration and willingness to step in have made a difference in Sitka, and this time is no different.” Chris McGraw also owns and maintains the Sitka Sound Cruise Terminal, which is a major part of the project.

John Leach, Sitka Municipal Administrator, also talked about the partnership with the Royal Caribbean Cruising Group. He extended his heartful gratitude to the organization, on behalf of the locals of the  community.

He marked the initiative as a mark of collaborative effort in this crucial time.

Leach said, “This collaboration highlights the strength of our community and our ability to come together to find solutions in times of need, not only during emergency outages but also during times of high network congestion.”
