PM Timothy Harris asks to ramp up COVID-19 vaccine to protect children

St Kitts and Nevis: The Prime Minister has praised the citizens for achieving excellent progress in the vaccination drive on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Timothy Harris asked the residents to take steps in ramping up the vaccination for the children to protect the young population of the nation from SARS-CoV-2.

Prime Minister Harris wrote, “We have made excellent progress on vaccinating adults. Let’s ensure our children are protected too.”

According to the statics shared by the health ministry of St Kitts and Nevis, the total vaccine doses administrated to the citizenships of twin-island are 57,320. Of the total, 43,589 doses have been administrated to the people of St Kitts, and as many as 13,731 people from Nevis.

The total number of residents who received that booster dose is at 2,975.

A total of 26,241 people have been fully vaccinated, including children. Of these, 82.4 percent of people have received 1st dose while 77.0 percent have taken 2nd dose of vaccination. Among children, aged between 12 years and 17 years, 18.3 percent of children have been administrated with 1st dose and 16.5 percent children have received 2nd dose.

As per the official site, as of Wednesday, St Kitts and Nevis have reported three new COVID-19 cases, and around six people have been recovered from the virus. Now, the total number of confirmed cases in the country is 5,511 and recoveries are at 5,406.

The country has reported 65 active cases. Out of the total, 59 are from Saint Kitts and six from Nevis.

In accordance with the health ministry, St Kitts has reported 33 deaths, and Nevis has seven deaths, bringing the total death toll to 40.
