The Prime Minister stated that having taught for two years himself, he understands firsthand the critical role this profession plays in nation-building. While recognizing the dedicated services of the teachers, he noted that they have shared their knowledge, nurtured their dreams, and been second parents to all the students in their beautiful second home, school.

“Congratulations to all teachers, and on behalf of a grateful nation, I extend our deepest gratitude for your invaluable contributions,” noted PM Terrance Drew.

PM Drew asserted that this special day of World Teachers Day not only celebrates knowledge but the life lessons they have imparted to each student. He further continued to say that these teachers not only share knowledge but also resilience, empathy, and the importance of hard work.

Moreover, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Denzil Douglas also acknowledged teachers especially ones who are teaching at various levels, Pre-School, Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Education.

Minister Douglas noted that these teachers should be truly appreciated for their dedication, contribution and commitment to the nation’s Children and to their overall academic journey and success through the years.

He further added that despite several challenges being faced by the teachers but they still continue to nurture, train, assist and educate their children to be productive citizens and adults.

Minister Denzil Douglas continued to say that he understands very well some of the challenges that teachers face in and out of the classroom because he was once a teacher also. “Not all daunting experiences, but there are good times, especially in the good conduct and behaviour of the children.”

Notably, this year, World Teachers Day was conducted under the theme “Valuing Teacher Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education.” This theme outlines the need to address the systemic challenges teachers face and to establish a more inclusive dialogue about their role in education.
