Castries, Saint Lucia: Prime Minister Philip J Pierre passed a decision to regulate the prices of menstrual hygiene products for all women on the occasion of World Women’s Day on Friday. He expressed his commitment to advancing women’s empowerment and their rights.

While addressing the people on Women’s Day, the leader of Saint Lucia touched on several unique challenges faced by women, with a primary focus on their health.

PM Pierre and his government are working diligently to foster the fundamental importance of gender equality across the nation. For this purpose, the government announced the adjustment of the prices of women’s sanitary products such as tampons, sanitary napkins, and other hygienic products.

The government ensures that the prices will be placed so that females can access menstrual products. This strategic policy underlines the government’s commitment to promoting women’s health and well-being. The prime minister understands the issue of period poverty, which prevents several females from accessing menstrual hygiene products.

Further, PM Pierre took to his official social media handle (Facebook) to greet females on International Women’s Day.

“Happy International Women’s Day to the trailblazers and our everyday women who nurture and grow this society.

We will continue to invest in Women to Accelerate Progress in this country. Your role is invaluable, and we honour you, especially today, for your devotion to our homeland. Happy International Women’s Day to the women of Saint Lucia and beyond”, added PM Pierre.

Moreover, the authorities came with an unexpected move as they offered a complimentary phlebotomy service and a free ultrasound for expecting mother in every trimester who registered themselves through their local wellness centres.

The initiative is supported by the Universal Health Coverage program, further supported by the private sector. PM Pierre recognized the crucial role played by women in supporting the recovery of the economy following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Saint Lucia’s leader and the government launched several programmes to ensure that every woman can thrive, succeed, and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s Progress. They are working to provide them with access to vital resources for their growth.

Additionally, the Deputy Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Ernest Hilaire, exchanged his wishes on Women’s Day.

“Let’s celebrate the incredible achievements of women within our communities and worldwide as strong pillar of society. They continue to show great resilience and break barriers in all aspects of life. Together, we will continue to pave the way for a more inclusive and empowered world for all!. Here’s to all the strong, inspiring women making a difference every single day”, remarked Minister Hilaire.
