Prime Minister of Belize Johnny Briceño received his booster shot of the COVID-19 vaccine on Friday.
The islands’ government has started the administration of the booster shots for the eligible fully inoculated population in the month of November.
While encouraging the general public to get themselves immunised against COVID-19, Prime Minister wrote on his Facebook post, “Fully vaccinated and getting my booster shot. Let’s have a safe Christmas and prepare for a productive pandemic controlled New Year. Please get your vaccines and your boosters. #getvaccinated #becovid19safe #lovethemprotectthem“.
While in order to tackle the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the administration of Belize has imposed a curfew from 11 pm to 4 am (Sunday to Thursday). While on Friday & Saturday, the curfew will be in effect during the hours of midnight until 4 am.
Cheering up and sharing their experiences of getting vaxed, several individuals commented on the prime ministers’ post, also appreciating the efforts of the government.
If we look at the vaccination statistics, there are around 228 517 individuals have taken their first shots of the COVID-19 vaccine (which counts for 57.5 percent of the islands’ population).
On the other hand, a total of 195,230 people are those who have obtained their required number of the COVID-19 jabs and are now fully inoculated against the deadliest outbreak. This accounts for 49.1 percent of the total population.
In addition, the Director of PAHO – Dr Carrissa Etinne, while speaking on the weekly COVID-19 media briefing, noted that as per the data, still there are several nations which yet has not been able to reach the vaccination target set by the World Health Organisation – WHO.
If we look at the overall statistics, it shows that around 55 percent of the Caribbean and the Latin American population is fully immunised against the deadliest virus.
PAHO Director has further encouraged the people to strictly follow the COVID-19 health protocols.
