PM Andrew Holness announces by-election in North East St Ann, September 11 set as nomination day
The Prime Minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness, revealed the date for the by-election in the constituency of North East St Ann during the Post-Cabinet Press Briefing.

The Prime Minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness, revealed the date for the by-election in the constituency of North East St Ann during the Post-Cabinet Press Briefing. This election has become necessary due to the resignation of Marsha Smith, a former Member of Parliament.
Sharing the relevant dates for the by-election in North East St Ann, PM Holness mentioned that the Nomination Day will be Wednesday, September 11, 2024.
He further shared about the date of Election Day, which is Monday, September 30, 2024.
PM Holness shared that Matthew Samuda has resigned as Senator and Government Minister to nominate his name as the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) candidate for the constituency.
Further appreciating the skills and expertise of Marsha Smith, PM Holness announced that he will soon share a new appointment for her, as per her excellent skills and experience in industrial relations.
PM Andrew Holness further explained that the government’s current focus is on filling the vacancies in various constituencies and divisions. He further stated that this is being done as part of a broader restructuring process.
He further assured that nobody should think that North East St Ann is not being treated well and is being treated differently from other areas. Following which he announced that the upcoming by-election for North East St Ann will be held first, but all outstanding by-elections in other areas will also be completed soon.
PM Holness stated that the dates for the remaining by-elections to fill the existing vacancies will be announced in the coming weeks.
Also, Prime Minister Andrew Holness informed that September 3 marked the fourth anniversary of the victory in the 2020 General Election of his administration.
In addition he mentioned that the government of Jamaica is currently focusing on the development of the nation and are overcoming all the unexpected shocks that are coming along the journey.
Further, the Government of Jamaica has encouraged all the eligible voters to utilize their constitutional right and participate actively in the democratic process, by choosing the right candidate for the betterment of their constituency.
