According to the media houses of the United States, Pfizer and BioNTech soon might ask the American health regulation authorities for the emergency authorization of the vaccine for the toddlers below the age of 5 years. This age group is the sole who has yet not been vaccinated by the WHO-approved COVID-19 vaccines.
This step is being initiated after the United States is witnessing a decline in the daily COVID-19 cases, but still, the educational institutions in many US states have still not opened their doors. Parents have expressed their concern over the school closures and regarding their unvaccinated children.
Meanwhile, the previous month, the Food and Drug Administration gave a green signal to administer the COVID-19 booster shot of the Pzifer vaccine for children as young as 12 years old, whereas as per the statistics released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the age group is the one with the lowest – 22% vaccination coverage rate.
One of the media houses, the Times reported, if both of the pharmaceutical firms get a nod to utilize the two-dose regime for the children between 6 months to 5 years, then they will further initiate a study on a three-jab regime.
One of the official sources informed and cited, “We know that two doses aren’t enough, and we get that. The idea is, let’s go ahead and begin the review of two doses of vaccine. If the data hold up in the – submission, you could start kids on their primary baseline months earlier than if you do not do anything until the third-dose data comes in.”
As per the vaccination statistics, around 64.1% of the total adult population of the United States obtained a required number of jabs and are now fully immunized, whereas about 26.8% of the population is the one who is partially vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus, as of January 31, 2022.
