Patricia Scotland hosts Birmingham’s 10th Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting

Commonwealth: Secretary General of the Commonwealth- Patricia Scotland QC was delighted to welcome the ministers of the Commonwealth to Birmingham’s 10th Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting (CSMM). The Secretary General of the Commonwealth hosted the meeting on July 27, 2022.

The sixth Secretary-General of the Commonwealth and the first woman to hold the post shared a glimpse of the meeting through her official Facebook account.

In her post on the social media account, she wrote, “Wonderful to welcome everyone to the 10th #Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting (#CSMM) in Birmingham today – the first meeting of ministers since our family grew from 54 to 56 nations.”

Scotland noted that this was the first meeting of the Commonwealth after the Commonwealth family grew from 54 to 56 countries following the addition of Gabon and Togo.

Along with that, the focus of the meeting was on exploring how investment in the sports sector could hold the grip to strengthen equitable development, which will also feature the display of innovation in the industry.

Further in her Facebook post, CSG Patricia Scotland said, “Sport is a shaping force in our societies, with the power to move, motivate and inspire.”

Earlier, CSG Patricia Scotland had attended several Commonwealth Meetings, where she interacted with various individuals and engaged in discussions on several issues of concern.

The government of the Commonwealth convened in Birmingham, United Kingdom, for the 10th Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting on July 27, 2022.

The officials drafted the proposed agenda for the 10th Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting in consultation with the government of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth Advisory Body on Sport (CABOS).

It also draws upon the recommendations and outcomes of meetings that took place in the past, including the 9th Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting of 2018, the Ministerial Forum on Sport and COVID 19 (2020) and the Senior Officials Meeting on Sport for Development and Peace (SOMSDP).
