Nominations for West Grand Bahama received following death of longtime MP

West Grand Bahama and Bimini saw enthusiastic supporters of political factions, come out in full force to show their unwavering support to the candidates who filed their nomination for the 22 November by-elections.

The nominations were confirmed at the Mount Zion Baptist Church Hall, Jones Town, Eight Mile Rock, Grand Bahama, from 9 a.m. to 12 pm.

Five candidates in total have given their names; the names include:

• Free National Movement’s Ricardo Grant
• Kingsley Smith of the Progressive Liberal Party
• Lincoln Bain of the Coalition of Independents
• Independent Candidates:

– Terneille Burrow

– Daqua Swain

After the process of the nomination, each candidate shared their views with the reporters and made a request to the citizens to give them an opportunity to represent the constituency in the Parliament by voting in their favour.

Daqua Swain, an independent candidate, while talking to the journalists, stated that the natives of West Grand Bahama and Bimini have a great opportunity to vote for a young, lively and vibrant leader who can bring modern and innovative solutions to resolve the issues which they are going through.

Swain, while requesting the residents, stated that the old method and process of doing things has not resulted in a favourable outcome for the country. He added that there is a need to add new voices, ideas, opinions and approaches to the Parliament, that could understand the needs and requirements of the 18 and 19-year-olds of the nation.

Swain also remarked that the public should vote for a leader who could also relate to and understand the elderly.

Another individual candidate and the sole female candidate in this election, Terneille Burrow, stated that the individuals have a unique opportunity to vote for such a leader who could represent their interests as a Member of Parliament.

Kingsley Smith of the Progressive Liberal Party pledged that he would become the voice of and a champion for, the residents of his nation.

Notably, he added that he is a part of the government and the residents will be able to earn a lot of benefits if he becomes a member of Parliament.

Free National Movement’s Ricardo Grant showed his trust and a humongous amount of confidence in his campaign as he has promised that he will bring substantial growth to West Grand Bahama and Bimini and will take his nation to the next level through his unwavering commitment and dedication.

The unusual timing of the by-elections is due to the sudden death of the last MP, Obie Wilchchombe, in September. He represented the constituency since 2002, till his passing.
