New playground facility opens for children of Penville community in Dominica

Roseau, Dominica: A new playground facility, which is a symbol of hope and joy for the children of Penville community has been officially commissioned on Saturday.  A brand-new playground will play a significant role in creating a new space for the children to come and relax and aid in building healthier bodies and promoting social skills.

Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit, the Prime Minister of Commonwealth of Dominica who celebrates his birthday on the said day also attended the opening ceremony of the playground in Penville. He commemorated his special day with the children of the constituency and was accompanied by Melissa Skerrit, the Parliamentary Representative for Roseau Central constituency and officials from People’s Republic of China.

During the inauguration ceremony, PM Skerrit addressed everyone and extended gratitude to People’s Republic of China for being committed towards their promise of leading Dominica to greater heights. Notably, the donation for the play sets was reported to be given by China which shed light on the crucial partnership and the relation that both the countries have formed over the years.

Also, in the next phase of the project, the administration aims to install a major gazebo for the parents of the children to visit and enjoy watching their children playing and having fun on the ground. The installation of the major gazebo is expected to begin in the next couple of weeks. Playgrounds plays a crucial role in leading the child towards growth and development, it offers them opportunities to foster their sense of community, creativity, social skills and increased their physical strength.

PM Roosevelt Skerrit also highlighted the significance of playgrounds and stated that it would bring joy and happiness to children and will inspire them to participate in sporting activities. The playground facility will also help in fostering the relation between children and their parents as it will provide them an opportunity to engage in playing activities together and strengthen their relations.

It will also play a crucial role in keeping the child away from TV and gadgets in order to enhance their mental and physical health. Moreover, the Principal of Primary School Bazil stated that the playground would create a positive impact on the lives of children in the Penville area. She noted that it would help children in growing mentally and physically which would further enhance their overall health and well-being.

The administration also aims to construct such kind of playgrounds in every constituency of Dominica with a vision to provide a safe environment to all the children in order to improve their overall well-being and develop social skills.
