The National Hurricane Center reported that the chances of a disturbance in the Atlantic developing into a tropical system have increased. On Thursday, the experts predicted that this system would evolve into a tropical depression by early next week.
The meteorologists shared that the system is currently moving westward and is expected to approach the Lesser Antilles, a group of islands in the Caribbean.
In Addition, Brooks Garner, Meteorologist from the FOX 35 Storm Team, shared that the system can potentially turn into a hurricane as it moves into the Caribbean.
The chances that it can form into a hurricane are around 40%. Further it has been stated that if the current disturbances transform into a tropical storm, then it would be given the name “Francine.”
Moreover, it would be considered the sixth named storm of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season. The Met Department mentioned that naming the storms makes it easier to track and communicate about it effectively.
Additionally, the National Hurricane Center is currently monitoring a monsoon trough that has moved off the coast of Africa.
However, meteorologist Garner mentioned that even though the current situation is not that troublesome but this monsoon trough has the potential to develop into a storm, by next week.
The experts have reported that the peak of hurricane season is September 10, so the increase in tropical activity at this moment is both expected and normal. Similarly, they have warned the administrations and the people to always remain cautious and keep a check on the weather forecasts.
