Minister Alix Jeffers supports Land Registry Act (Validation) Bill, 2021

The Land Registry Act (Validation) Bill, 2021, have been passed by the island national assembly in St Kitts and Nevis. The Minister of Agriculture Alexis Jeffers has favoured this Act. This bill was passed on August 5 2021, in the twin-island federation of St Kitts and Nevis.

This new bill validates the land registry act 10 of 2017. With this, it gives retroactive effect to the act’s provisions. Unless it was primarily known as the land registry validation bill,2021

Minister of Agriculture Jeffers said that the bill is so significant as before many people would purchase property, for instance, as they were not aware of the difficulties they would face due to that particular piece of property or tract of land. But after all of the important transactions were completed, then it was observed that someone would have made a mistake at some point in the past by noting or registering the previous owner’s name incorrectly, and so this leads to various difficulties.

While supporting the bill, Minister Jeffers said that this bill is helpful to finish the issues that would change into a physical fight in the future. These fights would arise due to the matters related to land sale and inheritance.

According to minister Jeffers, the land registry staff would be provided with every required system, equipment and process so that they can perform their duties. One of the significant areas would be that the nation has a management of the property registration and land database.

“It has to be in the best possible shape that it can be in order to ensure that we are improving our ease of doing business in the Federation of St.
Kitts and Nevis,” he stated, justifying the above statement.

He noted that as the real estate would see a development, then automatically, the livelihoods and lives of the citizens would improve.

The Land Registry Act (Validation) Bill, 2021, was passed cooperatively by the National Assembly of St Kitts and Nevis.
