Kanye West changes his name to “Ye” after judge approves his request

American rapper, singer and songwriter – Kanya west, from now onwards, will be known as ‘Ye’. Just Ye. 

A Los Angeles judge has granted the 44-year-old’s name change request, a communications officer at the Los Angeles Superior Court. The American singer filed a request to change his name, citing personal reasons. 

The change of his name now means the – Grammy-winning rapper and producer no longer has a last or middle name. His previous full name was – Kanye Omari West.   

In the year 2018 Ye released an album by the same name, a moniker he’s long used as a nickname.

The American singer, while in an interview with a radio channel during that year, cited that, “I believe ‘ye’ is the most ‘commonly used’ word in the Bible, and in the Bible it means you. So it’s I’m you, I’m us, it is us.”  

Following the statement, he added, “It went from being – Kanye, which means that the only one, to just Ye being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, our everything.”  

The spotlight latterly has shown on Ye more for his personal life than his art, after his partner of nearly a decade – Kim Kardashian, filed for divorce earlier this year.

About Ye – 

He was born in Atlanta & raised in Chicago; Ye gained recognition as a producer for – Roc-A-Fella Records in the – early 2000s, producing singles for several famous artists. 

Intent on pursuing a – solo career as a rapper, Ye released his debut album, The College Dropout – (2004), to critical and commercial success and founded the record label GOOD Music. 

He recently released his tenth album, Donda, in 2021. He has been a source of controversy for his conduct at the award shows, on social media, & in other public settings his audacious comments on the music and fashion industries, US politics, race, & slavery have generally polarized. 

Ye’s Christian faith, as well as his marriage to a renowned television personality – Kim Kardashian, have also been sources of media attention.
