Jamaica Constabulary Forces share data of seized weapons in 2022

Jamaica: The Jamaican Police have announced the data about the seizure of firearms in the first half of 2022. As per the data, around 14 percent more weapons, 61 percent more rifles, and approximately 12 percent more pistols have been seized by the Police force.

“In the first quarter of the year, the Jamaica Constabulary Forces (JMC), in partnership with other Law Enforcement agencies, removed 223 firearms from the nation’s streets compared with 195 at this point in 2021″, said Commissioner of Police Major General Antony Anderson.

“Statistics from Crime Stop reveal that there has been a 97% increase in tips from the public when compared with the same period in 2021 (193 in 2021 comparative to 381 in 2022),” Commissioner further stated.

“12 members of the Ranko Gang have been arrested, four of which are JCF members; this is a positive development and reflective of the Constabulary’s continued process of transforming itself”, he added.

Commissioner Anderson said, “The JCF will provide no cover for members involved in criminality. It damages the work of the honest, dedicated police officers and the reputation of the Force.”

While reacting to the post, one of the users commented, “The 14.3% increase in police seizures is impressive as an absolute, and we should be grateful. This should be evaluated against the new JDF/JCF anti-gang initiative and the substantial increase in rewards paid to persons giving info leading to gun seizures.”

Furthermore, the Commissioner asked the citizens to get every illegal gun, turn in every gunman and dismantle every gang. “If you see something, say something. You can call crime stop at 311, our tip line at 811, or police emergency at 119,” he stated.
