Jamaica: 17-year-old charged for stabbing schoolmate to death

Manchester, Jamaica: The 17-year-old stabbed his own 20-year-old schoolmate to death on Monday, 13th May 2024. This incident resulted in the arrest of a teenager, who has been charged with murder and wounding with intent.
The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Akeilia White and the name and identity of the suspect has not been revealed yet by the officers. As per the details shared by the officers, both the students got into a heated argument with each other.
Subsequently, the 17-year-old boy left the area and returned with a sharp object, and used it to attack the victim’s upper body and shoulder. Following that, the victim received multiple injuries from the knife attack.
Notably, a male student who came in between the fight in order to stop it also became the victim of the attack. Soon after that, they both were taken to the hospital, where the doctors on duty examined them thoroughly and pronounced Akeilia White dead. Meanwhile, another male student is undergoing medical treatment and is still hospitalized.
The 17-year-old boy was later arrested by the officers and was charged with the offense of killing his own schoolmate.
According to the reports, the teenager was taken to the Mandeville Parish Court where he has been remanded until 4th June 2024.
Several residents of the community took to their social media accounts and expressed their views and opinions on the matter. One person commented “Don’t give him any bail, this is not a joke, charge him as an adult only. Nobody has the right to take away someone’s life. Be it whoever or whatever.”
Another person commented the following “This is so disgusting, now teenagers have also started attempting crimes. It is so disturbing to watch all this.”
The citizens of the country have requested the authorities of India to take stringent measures on curbing the increase in crime rate. They have also highlighted about the implementation of policies and plans in order to protect youth from getting indulged in such criminal activities.
