Island-wide Power Outage in Tobago leads to disruptions in traffic lights 

Tobago is affected by the island-wide power outage, which is causing a disturbance and interruption for both businesses and residents across the island.

Tobago is currently affected by the island-wide power outage on Friday, which is causing a disturbance and interruption for both businesses and residents across the island.

It caused inconvenience to the public as it resulted in disruptions to the traffic as all traffic lights went down in Tobago. The most affected region is Scarborough Port, which could not operate without electricity.

Moreover, Allan Stewart- Director of Tobago’s Emergency Management Agency, expressed his concern about the power outage as it affects key operations such as Machinery operating.

“Island-wide shutdown which would have had an impact on key operations like machinery WASA depends on, as well as machinery that deals with power gates”, said Director Stewart. 

Fortunately, the electricity problem did not create inconvenience to the patients at the Scarborough General Hospital. As a matter of concern, some parts of the country still have no access to electricity for the time being.

According to the reports of T&TEC, they conducted an investigation to know the root cause of this problem. During their investigation, they found that a fault occurred during the construction work. It caused the units at the Cove Power Station to trip, which resulted in this power outage.

It is to be noted that they managed to restore the power and brought back the customers on the supply. The cause of the initial fault is being investigated.

Further, they urged the public to be cautious and prioritize safety, especially on the country’s roadway. People across the nations took to their Facebook handles to express their frustration and concern regarding the inconvenience they were suffering.

While reacting to the news, a person named Hafeez Baksh commented, “I hope everything is ok with the crew that was carrying maintenance works at the Toco sub station.”

Another person, by the name of Natasha Mohammed wrote, “Another tree fall down, this time in Tobago.”
