Star of the Seas by Royal Caribbean floats at Meyer Turku shipyard

The new cruise ship by the Royal Caribbean Group, named Star of the Seas, started floating over the water surface at its construction site, Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. The crucial construction milestone was achieved almost after ten months, since its construction was initiated last year.

The Star of the Seas cruise ship by the Royal Caribbean is the second addition to the Icon Class fleet of the company. The first and, till now, only active cruise in this class is Icon of the Seas, which was launched on 09 December 2022 and came into service on 27 January 2024.

After witnessing the success of Icon of the Seas before its first venture, the Royal Caribbean Group announced the Star of the Seas cruise ship. The name of the new Icon Class was disclosed by the officials on 05 October 2023, and its construction was started on 15 December 2023.

The project was taken under consideration around nineteen months ago. The ship is being built with the efforts of thousands of workers and experts involved in the project at different levels. The project to build the grand cruise ship was given to Meyer Turku, who also built the Icon of the Seas.

The Star of the Seas cruise started floating on the water bed, which means it is that phase of the construction where the dry dock of the ship gets filled with water and becomes a wet dock. This also marks that the water vessel is built perfectly and on the way to provide services to the passengers.

The officials of the Royal Caribbean Group and Meyer Turku organised the float-out ceremony for the Star of the Seas. On this occasion, a canon was shot at the Meyer Turku shipyard. It is disclosed that the dry dock of the ship was filled with ninety-two million gallons of water.

It took nine hours overnight to complete the process, after which the ship structure successfully floated out. The ship structure is now ready for the next phase of the construction after which it will be ready and handed over to the Royal Caribbean Group to start the services.

It is expected that the Star of the Seas cruise by the Royal Caribbean will initiate its venture next year on 31 August 2025. The officials already mentioned a few details of the new ship and also declared that the Star of the Seas will not be an exact copy of the Icon of the Seas.

There will be a few updates on the new cruise ship, like Surfside. It is disclosed that the Surfside on the Star of the Seas will also be open for elementary school-aged kids. The decision was taken as the officials noticed older kids also hanging out in that area.

The Star of the Seas by the Royal Caribbean will also add a Broadway musical onboard. The musical is expected to be inspired by Back to the Future, which is a movie released in 1985 by Robert Zemeckis and Gale. It is expected on the basis of the post by the company for website-seeking auditions.

On the new cruise, the supper club venue will incorporate food, music, and a Chicagoland motif, and will also be themed on Chicago. Pier 7 is said to have a completely new look and come with a new concept. Aquadome Market and Adventure Ocean will also get updates.

The Royal Caribbean is also experimenting with some of the latest technologies on the new cruise ship like facial recognition locks. This will be added to some selected cabins on the cruise, which will give access to the recognised faces.
