New Delhi, India: India is making remarkable progress in the mobile manufacturing industry. Prime Minister Modi announced that India has secured the position of being the second-largest producer of mobile phones worldwide.
The country’s robust infrastructure, favourable government policies, and abundant skilled workforce have attracted major global corporations. Even the renowned smartphone giant, Apple, has turned to India for manufacturing its products.
Additionally, Samsung, a leading South Korean company, has established its largest factory in Noida. Whether it’s manufacturing, assembling, or outsourcing, India has emerged as the top choice for mobile phone companies.
As India rapidly progresses, it has solidified its position in the technology sector. The country has taken a significant step by allowing 100 percent foreign direct investment in the mobile sector. This move not only brings clarity to the definition of “manufacturing” but also establishes a transparent framework for investors.
Apple is already involved in mobile assembly within India, collaborating with three of its global suppliers: FOXCONN and PEGATRON in Tamil Nadu, and WISTRON in Karnataka.
The large electronics company is now coming to India and producing iPhones here as part of the ‘Make in India’ initiative. India’s success in the telecom sector is largely due to its ability to innovate and offer affordable products.
LAVA, a well-known Indian tech and electronics company that specializes in making handsets, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Indian brand to release a 5G smartphone for the local market.
Benefiting from strong infrastructure, a skilled workforce, and a forward-thinking approach to creating phones for both domestic and international markets, this Indian mobile manufacturer is expanding its manufacturing operations. With the introduction of their Agni 2 smartphone, LAVA is proudly introducing phones that are ‘Made in India‘.
According to the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA), Indian mobile brands are doing really well in various aspects like manufacturing, assembling, and packaging. They are able to produce good battery chargers and carefully designed phones.
With strong support from the government, India achieved over USD 10 billion worth of Smartphone exports in the fiscal year 2022-2023. Cabinet Minister Piyush Goyal described the mobile industry, which has grown from two manufacturers to 200 manufacturers, as a shining example of success.
The government has introduced a scheme that provides incentives of four to six percent on increased sales of mobiles made in India for qualified companies over a period of five years, according to IBEF.
With companies like Micromax, Lava, Intex, and Karbonn succeeding with affordable phones, the Indian smartphone market is entering a phase of rapid growth. Indian engineers are focused on future advancements and improving manufacturing processes through automation and robotics, which helps reduce costs and increase productivity.
India’s agile policies and resilient mindset are driving inclusive growth in the mobile sector, positioning the country as an exemplary development model for the world.
