ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 venues to operate at 70% capacity

World: International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Sunday that venues in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) would operate at 70 per cent of maximum seated capacity for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021. 

The announcement came as the cricket board opened ticket sales for cricket fans from across the world to attend the October 17 to November 14 2021. 

ICC cited that it, along with the Board of Control for Cricket in (BCCI), has worked closely in order to assure that cricket fans can be welcomed in a safe environment and COVID-19 protocols will apply at all venues.” 

The CEO of ICC asserted, “We are glad to welcome fans back to ‘international cricket’ in both Oman and the UAE to enjoy the – ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Our special thanks to our hosts – BCCI, Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) and Oman Cricket as well as the ‘local governments’ in these areas for their support in ensuring fans could attend in a safe environment.” 

Besides this, the Secretary of BCCI – Jay Shah, stated that he was pleased that the “World Cup” would be played in front of the cheering fans and thanked the UAE & Oman for paving the way for fans to return.

Following the statement, he added, “The anticipation for – World Cup, that is taking place after 5 years, is building with each passing day. I am sure we will have fans coming from different parts of the world to support their team. The vibe they will create will boost the performances on the field. The ticket sales have started, and I urge everyone to stay safe and follow the health advisories and savour the experience.” 

The schedule of 45 matches offers a host of crucial competition fixtures and matchups. The tournament kicks off with the Round 1 match between Oman and Papua New Guinea in Oman’s capital, Muscat. Australia and South Africa play the first match of Super 12s on October 23 in Abu Dhabi. 

While the West Indies team will be opposite of England on the first day of the tournament in Dubai, trying to defend their title. 

Those unable to travel to the UAE and Oman for the highly anticipated tournament will be able to watch matches live on television and by engaging across all of ICC’s digital and social media channels. An announcement regarding the tournament’s global broadcast coverage will follow soon.
