“I want to inspire other women,” says Victoria Evans after breaking Guinness World Record for rowing solo across Atlantic Ocean

Barbados: Victoria Evans, Thirty-five-year-old (35 years old) London-based lawyer, rowed into Barbados on Thursday, March 24, around 5:00 am in pursuit of breaking the Guinness World Record for rowing solo across the Atlantic Ocean.

Beginning her journey from Tenerife, Canary Islands, on February 11 this year, Evan took 40 days and 19 hours to complete her journey to Barbados. The current Guinness World Record for this title is 49 days, 7 hours and 15 minutes.

Pending confirmation from Guinness World Record, Evans will be spending a few days here on the island. Thee Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. hosted a media welcome for Evans and presented her with a token of appreciation for choosing Barbados to end her quest.

Evans also used her quest to highlight the UK Charity: Women In Sports and noted that completing this journey was her opportunity to change mindsets about women and girls in sports and how sports have the power to change lives.

Upon reaching the dry land, Victoria Evans stated, “Completing a solo expedition is something more than traveling alone; it also includes taking on the epic challenge of driving positive change. I also wanted to inspire others and use achievement as a platform to progress the narrative about women in sport.”

She further added that this achievement is just starting of the work she intends to do for this field. “I will use this experience to show that women can perform any task, as ‘actions speak louder than the words’,” she further notified.

For the completion of her aim, Evans quit her job and left her home. Evans further informed that she has been aiming to raise around £50,000 for her charity – “Women In Sport.”
