Guyana’s Ministry of Labour breaks ground for two training facilities

Georgetown, Guyana: The Ministry of Labour of Guyana has recently shared an update regarding the construction of two new training facilities in Region Six. As per the recent update by the Ministry and the Board of Training conducted a sod-turning ceremony on July 19, 2023 (Wednesday).
Through social media, the Labour Ministry and the BIT outlined, “With construction to commence soon, the Board of Industrial Training (BIT), Ministry of Labour today conducted a sod-turning ceremony for the construction of two new training facilities in New Amsterdam and Corriverton, Region 6.”
Furthermore, it informed the general public about the team which attended the ceremony.
As per the update by the Labour Ministry, a team from the labour ministry and BIT, comprised of Joseph Hamilton, Minister of Labour, Permanent Secretary, Bishram Kuppen, Chairman of BIT, David Armaogan, Chief Executive Officer (ag), Onyekachukwu Saskia Eastman, Mayor of Corriverton, Imran Amin, Town Clerk of Corriverton, Narendra Sukhran and Mayor of New Amsterdam, Wainright McInstosh, among other officials attended the ceremony.
In addition to this, it was notified that the two training facilities will be constructed by local contractors for the sum of $83 million and will house the Board of Industrial Training, Occupational Safety and Health, Labour, Cooperative & Friendly Societies and Central Recruitment and Manpower officers of the ministry.
The Ministry of Labour, Board of Industrial Training, completed the signing of two separate contracts for the construction of two new training facilities in New Amsterdam and Corriverton on July 11, 2023.
Both facilities will pattern similar designs, with two stories, measuring 2000 square feet for each floor, totalling 4000 square feet. The assigned engineer will be visiting both sites on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, to engage contractors with works expected to commence Thursday, July 13, 2023, as per the Ministry of Labour.
The facilities will be erected according to the Caribbean Vocational Qualifications (CVQs) standards by local contractors.
According to the update by the ministry, $44. 8 million was signed off to NK Enterprise Incorporated to build the facility in New Amsterdam, and $39.9 million went to Perba Trading and Construction Company for the construction at Corriverton.
