Guyana: Prez Irfaan Ali inaugurates One Guyana Recreational Park

Georgetown, Guyana: The Office of the President of Guyana updated the general public of the nation about the inauguration of the One Guyana Recreational Park. The park has been opened in New Amsterdam, Berbice.

As per the official update, the President was accompanied by his wife and First Lady of Guyana, Arya Ali and their son Zayd. The park, which is a part of the Office of the First Lady’s National Beautification Project, was built to enhance family time.

President Ali called the project significant and said that it is important in fostering family development, social cohesion, mental health development and physical health. “Mental health is linked to communities, and community health is linked to wellness and fitness, and how do we create a better as well as more conducive environment if we don’t have family-oriented space,” he was quoted saying.

The President warned that the area should not be used as “a rum shop or beer garden” but must be respected to aid in the growth of the community and its residents.

Earlier, President Ali visited some of the regions of Guyana and outlined the sustainability in the agricultural sector. As per the update shared by the Office of the President, Dr Irfaan Ali said that the Government would put the necessary systems in place to ensure that agriculture is sustainable and resilient in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) and other parts of Guyana.

During a visit to the communities of Marlborough and Hackney on the Pomeroon River on Thursday, the Head of State pointed to a range of projects and investments that are aimed at amplifying agriculture in the region.

“One of the projects we’re working with for Pomeroon is to see how we can get big investors with huge capital to come and work with the small-scale farmers because we want to re-ignite the coffee industry, we want to expand the coconut industry,” he said.

The President said that the objective is to make the Pomeroon “an important export location” for not only the coconut and coffee industries but also citrus and possibly cocoa. Dr Irfaan Ali also outlined that there are more than 550 farmers who will benefit from the elevated beds’ project. This, when completed, is expected to help Pomeroon farmers avoid flooding to greatly increase their productivity.
