Guyana: President Ali meets Football Federation members, discusses prep for One Guyana Football Tournament

Guyana: President of the Republic of Guyana Irfaan Ali met with stakeholders of Guyana’s football team at State House to discuss the final preparations for the One Guyana Football Tournament on November 11, 2022.

The visiting officials included the Guyana Football Federation’s President Wayne Forde, Rawlston Adams, Aubrey Major, Kashif Mohamed, Jamaal Shabazz, Peter Pompey, Franklin Wilson and Rawle Toney.

Forde assured that all mechanisms are fully functional for the successful hosting of the tournament and that all ten regions have been activated.

The regional tournament gets underway on Sunday with an inter-ward battle. The winners of each region will move on to the national playoffs, scheduled to start on December 13, with the grand finale set for January 1, 2023.

The visiting delegation also used the opportunity to showcase the tournament trophy, while Managing Director of Brass Aluminium and Cast Iron Foundry Ltd (BACIF), Peter Pompey, provided background on its unique feature. The design, he said, incorporates significant attributes of President Ali’s characteristics.

The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr and the Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister, Kwame McCoy, were also at the event.
