Guyana: Pharmacy Assistant Programme launched in Region Two
Guyana: The Ministry of Health, Division of Health Sciences Education, launched the Pharmacy Assistant Programme in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supernaam) at the Suddie Regional Hospital.

Guyana: The Ministry of Health, Division of Health Sciences Education, launched the Pharmacy Assistant Programme in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supernaam) at the Suddie Regional Hospital today.
This first-time Pharmacy Assistant Programme launched within the Region will commence with a batch of 27 persons who will be trained over a period of nine months.
Minister of Health, Honourable Dr Frank Anthony, in his feature address, explained that the Ministry continues to make efforts to decentralise training programmes for the benefit of persons within the various Regions.
The Minister said that the health care system would be undergoing expansion with the establishment of a new hospital in Anna Regina to accommodate patients and increase service. He explained that training opportunities such as this one are needed as preparations are being made for additional health system development.
“There is currently a need for Pharmacy Assistants within Region Two to better increase the level of services offered in the health facilities”, the Minister said.
In closing, he urged the participants to make efforts to successfully complete the training programme and access opportunities to further develop their skills in the profession.
Present at this event were the Chief Medical Officer, Dr Narine Singh; the Deputy Director of the Division of Health Sciences, Chandroutie Persaud, the Regional Health Officer (RHO), Dr Ranjeev Singh, the Regional Chairman, Vilma De Sliver, the Vice Chairman, Humace Oudith, Nephrologist attached to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), Dr Hemchand Barran, Arnold Adams, Chairperson of the Health and Sanitation Committee, Regional Pharmacist, Sookdeo Singh and other officials.
