Guyana: Patient found hanging in GPHC’s washroom
As per the officials, on 7 October 2021, at around 11:05 am, body of a lady patient was discovered hanging in the ward’s washroom at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

Georgetown, Guyana: As per the officials, on 7 October 2021, at around 11:05 am, body of a lady patient was discovered hanging in the ward’s washroom at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
The hanging body was found by one of the staff members of the hospital.
The hospital immediately informed the Guyana Police Force and the family of the patient by the members of the Management team of Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
A team from the hospital facility has been identified to support the family of the patient and provide all the essential information to assist the police authorities in their investigation.
While expressing solaces to the family of the deceased, GPHC’s Management authorities cited that, “As a hospital, we are dedicated to provide the very best care to the most ‘acutely ill and injured patients’, we are deeply saddened that this death occurred and are taking action to prevent this type of incident from ‘ever happening’ again.
“The GPHC’s Management extends our deepest condolences to the patient’s relatives and loved ones,” the statement issued by the hospital’s management team.
This is a shocking incident reported. No statements have been issued by the police officials yet, but they have started their investigation. It is yet not even informed that whether it was a murder or a suicide.
The family members are also ready to cooperate with the police officials in their investigation.
This incident has also generated fear among the other patients of the hospital facilities.
Guyana suicide rate –
According to the 2012 – World Health Organization report released that Guyana had a suicide rate of – 44.2 per 100,000 people and that for every single female suicide, there were around 3.2 male suicides.
On the comparison, neighbouring Suriname had a suicide rate of – 27.8 per 100,000, and Venezuela’s rate was – 2.6 per 100,000.
