Grenada to provide student package with $1200 book allowance to schools

The Government of Grenada will provide a student package, including a $1200 book allowance and $2000 to assist with accommodation and transportation to the affected communities. Though, the reopening of the schools remains to be an immense concern, the repair work has started on Hillsborough Government School and Bishop’s College.
The four schools are still being utilized as shelters in Grenada in order to accommodate the citizens who lost their homes.
The authorities have asked the citizens to wait for an official announcement on the reopening of schools. This information was unveiled by the Prime Minister of Grenada, Dickon Mitchell who made his visit to the sister isle of Carriacou and Petite Martinique in order to receive firsthand updates on the ongoing recovery efforts following Hurricane Beryl 2024.
During his visit, PM Dickon Mitchell also appreciated Guyana Defence Force for their assistance in reinstalling the roofs of buildings on the island.
He noted that the Guyana Defence Force are providing several roofing materials such as galvanize zinc sheets and rafters. And, over 100 households on Carriacou have already benefited from it including public officers, police officers and members of the public.
While sharing the glimpses of his visit to Carriacou and Petite Martinique, PM Dickon Mitchell stated that the People and the Government of Guyana have been playing a very instrumental role in the relief and recovery of the twin-isle parish of Carriacou and Petite Martinique, following the July 1 passing of Hurricane Beryl.
Notably, the Guyana Defence Force has been working diligently on four key public buildings: the Administrative Building, the Carriacou Police Station, the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs & Local Government, and the Hillsborough Secondary School.
Therefore, the Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell along with Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government, Tevin Andrews and Education Minister, David Andrews visited the projects sites where they received an update on the progress of the project.
He stated that they assessed the readiness of schools for reopening and made important decisions regarding the remaining tasks. PM Dickon Mitchell continued to say that their government is providing a comprehensive student support package, which includes book allowances and assistance with accommodation and transportation.
The Government is also providing uniform assistance to all students on both islands. For the same, parents have been asked to submit the information of their children to the schools’ principals.
Moreover, the Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support, dedication and professionalism demonstrated by everyone involved in this recovery and rebuilding process. He stated that it is a combine effort by everyone to make Grenada rise again.
