St. George, Grenada: The Government of Grenada and members of Parliament are making efforts to foster a sense of pride and involvement among the youth of the tri-island state for their 50th Independence celebration.

It is to be noted that the Government and the members of Parliament visited all the Secondary Schools across the tri-island state in order to distribute Independence pins on Monday, 15th January 2024. These pins are being distributed under the theme “50, it’s a big deal.”

This initiative by the Government is a step towards encouraging the youth to participate actively in the lead-up to and aftermath of the independence festivities.

It is to be further added that the Government of the tri-island nation stated that these pins visually represent the unity and the pride that all Grenadians share and that these pins hold important symbolic value. These pins exhibit the official 50th Anniversary of Independence logo.

While expressing their wish, the Government added that “we are hoping that students will proudly wear these pins as a mark of their connection to the nation’s history and the ongoing celebration of its independence.”

Gail Purcell, the director of the Independence Secretariat, while expressing her excitement, stated, “We want the children of schools to feel a sense of pride and involvement in the 50th-anniversary independence celebrations. While the commemorative pins are intended for all citizens, we found it pressing to ensure our youth had priority. We are very excited for the ministers to distribute the pins and hope the students will wear them daily with utmost grace and pride for their nation.”

Moreover, another initiative taken by the Government was The Mobile Museum, which was started on 29th November 2023. It is an educational tool that offers students a unique and interesting way to learn about the past, present, and future of their nation. This initiative was taken in order to promote the love and respect of the youth towards their cultural heritage.

Along with that, a workshop, namely “Youth Symposium”, has been scheduled for Friday, 19th January 2024. This will play a huge role in empowering the younger generation by conducting discussions on leadership and collaborative problem-solving techniques. The conference will be held for a full day and will help the young generation enhance their knowledge about their culture and roots.

Furthermore, the citizens of Grenada responded to this government initiative through their comments on Facebook. One person with a Facebook handle, Shirlestica Samuel, commented, “Very good initiative, my dear Honourable Prime Minister. We’re indeed moving in the right direction.”

While another person with Facebook account Alwell Jjoel commented the following “God bless Grenada.”
