Grenada has been lauded for investing roughly $125 million in a water services project, through the National Water and Sewerage Authority (NAWASA). According to reports, this project aims to bring a comprehensive approach to dealing with two major climate related issues in Grenada.
Firstly, it aims to mitigate fresh water availability issues, secondly, the project aims to deal with a lack of disaster preparedness.
The event began with a sod turning event. NAWASA has also stated that this initiative marks the first significant investment which is meant to mitigate one of the nation’s biggest issues, which is a shortage of water.
The project is focusing on making investments in pipelines and water storage infrastructure. This is expected substantially improve customer service levels on the island nations. The Group 1 Component of the G-CREWS project encompasses two key elements: pipeline installation and the placement of water storage tanks in three general areas.
Construction is set to commence shortly on what is planned to be the longest pipeline, beginning at NAWASA’s Mirabeau Water Treatment Plant and leading all the way to Tivoli. This phase will encompass the task of replacing over 12,000 meters of pipelines and installing a new 500,000-gallon storage tank at the Mirabeau plant specifically.
