Government declares night curfew in Haiti

The Government of Haiti has declared a night curfew and other restrictions on Monday under an eight-day “health emergency” expected to control the spread of the coronavirus.

From 10 pm to 5 am, all outdoor activities have been prohibited under the order issued by President Jovenel Moise, who was in Ecuador on Monday for the inauguration of the country’s new President.

The order also makes it compulsory to use face masks for all those who have been going out in public places, while temperature checks and handwashing stations are required for all public or private buildings such as banks, schools, hospitals and markets. Social distancing in public places shall not be less than 1.5 meters.

Residents of Port-au- Prince, seemed to take a narrow view of what was supposed of them after implementing these new rules as street markets have a heavy crowd on a daily basis and public vehicles. Many people did not wear masks, and the social distancing was also being overruled.
According to the recent surge in daily cases of the virus has urged authorities to declare the ‘State of Emergency’.

Vaccination for its population against the coronavirus has not started till now. From June, the government of Haiti is all set to give shots of the vaccine to their population.

The new death cases of Haiti have also reached the number of 8, with an average of 2 deaths every week. The new cases graph is increasing continuously, with which it touched the figure of 171 new cases average occurrence of 64 patients every week. Haiti has no single Covid-19 vaccine for its over 11 million population. Haiti is expected to receive 756,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccines through a UN program to get the jabs to the neediest nations.
