Jamaica: There is a Scholarship Opportunity for the Final year undergraduates and the first-year graduate studies students from across several departments at the University of the West Indies.

PM Andrew Holness announced, “I am happy to announce that I have partnered with the Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy, University of Missouri, in collaboration with the Department of Black Studies, University of Missouri, to offer the Andrew Holness/Positive Jamaica Foundation Scholarship on the History of Jamaica and the Atlantic World, in honor of Black History Month.”

Scholarship Availability
Final year undergraduates and first-year graduate studies students from across several departments at the University of the West Indies, Mona, are eligible to apply for a scholarship opportunity to spend July 2021 at Corpus Christi College, University of Oxford, studying with the Kinder Institute’s MA summer school in Atlantic history. Eligibility requirements:
1. Candidates must be Jamaican nationals who are either final year undergraduates or first-year graduate studies students of the UWI, Mona.
2. Candidates must be attempting one of the following study programs: History, English, Literature, Linguistics, Political Science, Philosophy, or Economics.
3. Application cases must include:
a. A cover letter (of no longer than one page) (typed single-spaced) explaining how you are positioned to excel in this program.
b. An essay of 1500-2000 words (typed double spaced) on how Jamaica has historically related or currently relates to the broader Atlantic world.
c. A letter from the Dean or Department Head certifies that the student is enrolled and attending classes at the time of applying.
d. Official transcript with GPA.
e. Birth certificate or passport.
4. Forms are due by February 28, 2021. The successful candidate will be notified on March 31, 2021.
Purpose:
This opportunity will expand the horizons of Jamaican students. It will help those students who can’t afford fees for their education. Besides this, it will give an equal chance of making their future brighter than ever.
