Ernest Hilaire to serve as Deputy Prime Minister of St Lucia
Dr Ernest Hilaire is appointed as the new Prime Minister of St Lucia, on the recommendation of Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre and the Acting Governor-General, H.E. Cyril E.M. Charles.

St Lucia: Dr Ernest Hilaire is appointed as the new Prime Minister of St Lucia, on the recommendation of Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre and the Acting Governor-General, H.E. Cyril E.M. Charles.
Welcoming the post, Dr Hilaire pledges to serve the country to the best of his abilities.
The new prime minister has served as High Commissioner of Saint Lucia to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland & as Saint Lucia’s Ambassador to France.
He has earlier contested the general elections of June 6, 2016, in which the Saint Lucia Labour Party constituted the opposition and was elected as the Member of Parliament for Castries South.
Re-elected in July 2021, where Saint Lucia Labour party registered a historic win, and he is at present serving as the Minister with responsibility for Tourism, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture, and Information.
Dr Hilaire has served as the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth and Sports in 1999. The St Lucian politician became the Chief Executive Officer of The West Indies Cricket Board – (WICB) on October 1, in the year of 2009. Later he left the post to obtain a diplomatic posting in London in September 2012.
He was also the 1st Deputy Leader of the Saint Lucia Labour Party.
Education qualification of Dr Hilaire –
Dr Hilaire is a graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree at the Cave Hill campus of the University of the West Indies.
Dr Hilaire gave his one year as a Foreign Service Cadet and went on to achieve his – Master of Philosophy Degree in 1995 with a distinction in International Relations from Darwin College, Cambridge University, England. Hilaire also did a PhD from the London School of Economics in the year of 2006 with a thesis titled International relations & the shaping of state-societal relations – A postcolonial study.
