Entertainment sector to re-open in Jamaica from 1st July

From July 1 to July 1, Jamaica would be re-open which had been a sweet treat of freedom for every Jamaican. On June 22 June 22, Prime Minister Andrew Holness, while giving a presentation in parliament, declared the partial re-opening of the entertainment sector of Jamaica and also highlighted the adjustment of the curfew through Jamaica.

The timing of the curfew has been changed by the Government. According to the new timings from July 1, the curfew from Monday to Saturday would start at 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. The timings for Sunday would be from 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. . The promoters have been allowed to host the event with a maximum of 100 people for the small event, whereas the promoters who would organize large events would have followed the additional set of rules.

The promoters who would organize any large event would have to send an application Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and sports. After reviewing the application if the application meets the requirement or not.

Organizers of the large events must first send an application to the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport. The Ministry will review the application to see that it meets the requirements. If the application fulfils the requirement of the Ministry, then ODPEM would be getting the application, and the ODPEM will consult the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

Municipal corporations will be decreasing the events permit fee by 50 %. Prime Minister Holness also stated that government-owned venues would be given to the organizers of large events.

The list of venues so far includes Facilities under the management of the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, including the Trelawny Stadium and the National Stadium complex, Fort Rocky and Fort Charles, Seville and the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre, Facilities under the management of the Port Authority of Jamaica including the Port Royal Pier and Falmouth Pier.

PM Holness said that in trying to preserve the entertainment sector, let them not jeopardize the re-opening of their schools in September. The stakes have been high, and that has been a risk they have all taking together as a country. Success has been up to every one of them. Let they, therefore, not view the new measure as a free for all. Let they commit to being responsible and diligent as they have sought to preserve the livelihoods of so many people.
