Embassy of Japan in T&T lauds performance of Jiutamai Japanese Dance Group at UWI
First performance of the Jiutamai Japanese Dance Group took place at the Centre for Language Learning (CLL), St Augustine Campus of the University of the West Indies.

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: The Embassy of Japan in Trinidad and Tobago has recently praised the Jiutamai Japanese Dance Group for their performance at the campus of the University of West Indies.
The Embassy stated, “On Friday, 12 May 2023, the first performance of the Jiutamai Japanese Dance Group took place at the Centre for Language Learning (CLL), St Augustine Campus of the University of the West Indies.”
The update by the Japanese Embassy in the twin-island nation of Trinidad and Tobago noted that at the start of the event, remarks were given by Ambassador Matsubara on behalf of the Embassy of Japan and Dr Diego Mideros, Coordinator of Spanish on behalf of the Centre for Language Learning.
Following the remarks, the Jiutamai dance group, accompanied by instrumental musicians, conducted the performance.
The Jiutamai Dance group consisted of professional dancers and musicians from Japan, including Tokijyo Hanasaki – Jiutamai Dancer and Choreographer, Kaname Hanasaki – Juiamai Dancer, Hyakushichi Fukuhara – Japanese Traditional Flute Performer and Shogo Hiyoshi – Japanese Traditional Sangen Performer.
The performances also included Sayori Imai, a Japanese Steel pan player living in Trinidad.
