Elevation in cost of LPG frets Barbadians

Barbados: Barbadians would pay more than previous for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), effective by midnight, Sunday, March 14 government announced.

The LPG 100-lb cylinder would sell at $144.36; the 25-lb cylinder would take $41.19; the cost of the 22-lb cylinder would be $36.41, and the 20-lb cylinder would be sold at $33.10. The last modification to the cost of LPG products was on July 5, 2020.

Elevation in LPG costs can cause problems

The increase in LPG costs in the time of COVID-19 can cause disputes and conflicts in the population. As most of the people are unemployed and at home due to lethal coronavirus. The life is at a setback, and people can’t afford this much increment in the costs of fundamental necessity.

Talking to news sources, A resident revealed, “Flow – pay more, Gasoline – pay more, LPG – pay more; Didn’t the PM say that she will talk with the utility company about payment plans? Or did I hear wrong? My bills are coming full force, and my pockets are empty.”

Another Barbadian stated, “All of these happening during the Pandemic.” Whereas, a Facebook user commented, “Heartless, omg people ain’t working, but they still have to eat.”

The elevation of costs in LPG is not only witnessed in Barbados, but it is also observed in other countries too. India has also increased the value of LPG. The Barbados’s most substantial diplomatic relations were shared with India due to the donation of COVID-19 (Oxford Astra Zeneca) vaccines during the most challenging times.

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder costs have been increased by ₹25 each in India. The third upward revision, thus far, has made the gas used for cooking refills dearer by ₹100 each for households in a span of just three weeks. Following the latest increase, a 14.2 kg cylinder in the capital of the country, Delhi, costs ₹794 as against ₹769.00 at which they were delivered.
