St Kitts and Nevis: The Leader of St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party – Dr Terrance Drew, visited College Street, where he interacted with the bus operators. He further lauded them for providing vital services in St Peter’s and Shadwell as well as all nearby stations.
While sharing information of the meeting, the minister stated, “Yesterday, I went to College Street to speak with the bus operators who provide their vital service to the St. Peter’s and Shadwell areas and other nearby stops along the way in the Basseterre community.”
“As we know, these bus drivers were pushed out of the normal parking area the day before without consultation after the traffic lights were turned on, he further mentioned, suggesting, “The proper thing to have done was to have a meeting with all stakeholders which would have avoided the incident that took place.”
He added that the surprising fact is that someone called the police when a simple conversation could have avoided that.
He further stated that he would be a ‘positive voice for the stakeholders (bus operators, the passengers and the residents of College Street)’ and further asked to give respect to the bus operators.
He was further quoted as, “As I say to the bus operators, I would be their voice to bring about positive change to satisfy the needs of the stakeholders (bus operators, the passengers and the residents of College Street). I am asking that the bus operators be shown the respect they deserve.”
He further asked St Peter’s Bus Association to represent the operators. “I call on the St Peter’s Bus Association to represent the drivers in this debacle,” he stated.
He concluded and asked the authorities to provide bathroom services at the stations.
“Lastly, I ask that bathroom services be immediately provided and bus station like other areas, and again call for resurfacing of the St. Peter’s main road. The only part of the island main road not done,” minister Drew said.
