Dr Denzil Douglas attends groundbreaking ceremony for desalination plant
Minister for Foreign Affairs of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Denzil Douglas attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Solar Powered Desalination Plant. The project has the capacity to produce up to 76000 gallons of water per day which will play a huge role in addressing several water-related problems.

Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Minister for Foreign Affairs of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Denzil Douglas attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Solar Powered Desalination Plant. The project has the capacity to produce up to 76000 gallons of water per day, which will play a huge role in addressing several water-related problems.
Dr Douglas shared glimpses of the ceremony on his official Facebook account and said “A groundbreaking ceremony for the solar-powered desalination plant, donated by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was held at the Canada Industrial Estate today. The Plant is expected to be completed this year with a capacity of 76,000 gallons of water per day”.

As per the details, the ceremony was held on Monday, 18th March 2024 and was attended by the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, and the Minister of Public Infrastructure, Energy, Utilities, Domestic Transport and the Minister responsible for Water Services, Konris G M Maynard and many more.
The United Arab Emirates has donated two solar-powered desalination plants to the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis as part of their UAE-Caribbean Renewable Energy Fund. These plants aim to provide fresh and potable drinking water to the residents of the island nation.
As per the details, the project is expected to be completed this year and will play a pivotal role in meeting the human and environmental needs and demands of citizens regarding water services.
In the year 2023 during the town hall meeting, Minister Konris Maynard shared his vision of alleviating all the water challenges with the construction of the plant that the country is facing. Moreover, the administration of the island nation is working dedicatedly to address the problem of water scarcity in order to improve the efficiency of water systems.
Several residents of the community took to their social media accounts and appreciated the authorities for their efforts to combat the challenges faced due to water scarcity.
