Dominica unveils 4-member team, hailing to Paris for Olympics 2024

The Dominica Olympic Committee unveiled the 4-member team who will be representing the island nation at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Roseau, Dominica: The Dominica Olympic Committee unveiled the 4-member team who will be representing the island nation at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The DOC extended their support to the athletes and promised to continue it as they step onto the international sporting stage.

The DOC has selected 4 members consisting of two males and two females which mirrors the gender balance that will be achieved at the Paris Olympics 2024. Notably, this year, the Olympics will have an equal number of men and women competing and will represent the first time in the last 24 years.

Moreover, two athletes from Dominica will represent their country in Athletics and two in Swimming. Thea Lafond Gadson who has been the Dominica’s first Indoor World Champion has been qualified for Paris 2024 by meeting the entry standard. She will be competing in the female triple jump in her third consecutive Olympic and is all set to claim the medal for her country.

Thea is also a holder of the Paris 2024 Olympic Scholarship which is funded by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and facilitated by the DOC.

On the other hand, Dennick Luke has also made its place in the name of those athletes who will be hailing to Paris. He will be representing the island nation in the 800-metre race. Also, this is the 2nd consecutive Olympic Games for Luke and he is also a holder of the scholarship.

Warren Lawrence will make his Olympic debut as the first male swimmer in Dominica since 2000. He has participated in the World Aquatics Championship 2023 and has achieved his personal best of 24.51 which is also a national record.

The fourth athlete, Jasmine Schofield will also be making her Olympic debut as the first female swimmer of Dominica since 2000. She recently competed in the 36thCCCAN Championships in Mexico and made a national record of 30.26 seconds in the 50m freestyle.

The Dominica Olympic Committee announced Woodrow Lawrence as the Chef de Mission who will be accompanied by Brendan Williams as the Team Leader and Shelly Ann Meade as the Olympic Attache. Along with that, the Athletics Coach Aaron Gadson, Swimming Coach, Gino Deflorian, Francilia Agar Schofield, Swimming Coach for the Panam Mulhouse Camp, Press Attache, Garvin Richards will also accompany the team to Paris.
