Grenadians Ishona Charles and Tyler Smith received a warm welcome reception at the Maurice Bishop International Airport following their exceptional performance at the Paris Paralympics 2024.

Grenadians Ishona Charles and Tyler Smith received a warm welcome reception at the Maurice Bishop International Airport following their exceptional performance at the Paris Paralympics 2024.
At the airport, the athletes were welcomed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Grenada and a crowd of enthusiastic fans. Both the athletes received hugs and were felicitated with a bouquet of flowers.
Both the athletes achieved record breaking performances and their personal bests in the events in which they competed. Ishona Charles competed in the women F 46 Javelin and F46 shot put while, Tyler Smith participated in the men’s shot put F43.
They both were trained under the coaching of Bassanio Nicholas, who is the IAAF Certified Level one coach. After the outstanding performance in Paris Paralympics by both the athletes, coach Nichols stated that he is extremely proud of both the athletes.
He added that their work ethic and attitude were positive throughout the preparation program and that is the only reason for their achievement in the Paris Paralympics 2024.
Tyler Smith made a throw of 8.07m in order to establish his personal best and a Paralympic Record in Men’s Shot Put F63. On the other hand, Ishona Charles hit the mark of 30.66m which is her personal best record in Women Javelin F46.
Along with that, Charles also established her personal best in Women Shot Put in all her three attempts i.e. 8.18m, 8.74m and 9.30m.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports of Grenada extended congratulations to both the athletes for all their achievements. They stated that this is a testament to the unwavering commitment and dedication of both the athletes towards soaring Grenada to greater heights. They called Charles and Smith a source of inspiration for several aspiring athletes who wishes to represent their nation on an international platform.
Moreover, His Majesty King Charles lauded both the athletes of Grenada and extended a congratulatory message. He stated that the Grenadian team’s participation at the Games truly embodied the wonderful spirit of the Paralympic movement.
He stated that he feels that the people of Grenada shared his joy in witnessing the skill, courage and determination of the team on the track and field.
King Charles stated that competing at the Paralympic games is truly a big achievement for any athlete. He therefore stated that he is full of admiration for each and every athlete’s remarkable strength and dedication. He also mentioned that he is looking forward to witnessing the continued success of all the athletes.
