Dominica to witness snap general election on December 6, announces PM Roosevelt Skerrit
Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, has announced that the country will witness a snap election on December 6, 2022 (Tuesday).

Dominica: Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, has announced that the country will witness a snap election on December 6, 2022 (Tuesday). Along with this, PM Skerrit stated that the nominations would be filed on November 18, 2022 (Friday). This crucial announcement was made on the evening of November 6, during the Prime Minister’s address to the people of Dominica.
During the national address, Prime Minister Skerrit announced that he wants a national reset to fight against uncertainties in the future. He stated that he shall lead a new team of the Dominica Labour Party in the general elections, which will be held “anytime soon now”, and wanted to start the next year, 2023, with a fresh mandate.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit outlined that his administration will remain dedicated and will indeed work to build sustainable and resilient Dominica. While asking for a nation reset, PM Skerrit stated that he has no intention to serve the country beyond April 2025. He said, “The people of Dominica have given me the mandate to remain in office until April 2025. I don’t intend to go beyond that date. I have run my race and intend to finish the course with Dominica safely back on the road of sustained progress and prosperity. That is why I am calling for a national reset.”
Furthermore, he asserted, “On November 6, I wrote to the President of Dominica to dissolve the current parliament of the country, effective immediately. I have asked that a fresh writ should be issued on Monday, November 7, 2022, for the holding of general elections in the Commonwealth of Dominica.”
He also highlighted that the Labour Party would announce its new candidate on November 8 in Roseau, the capital city. PM Skerrit also anticipated that his political party (Dominica Labour Party) would start fresh after being elected on December 6, 2022.
