Dominica receives 70,000 doses of Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine

Dominica: Dominica received 70,000 doses of Covishield COVID-19 vaccines from India on Tuesday evening, which is enough to vaccinate more than 50% of the population.

Getting the vaccine at the earliest was possible just because of the Prime Minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit, whose firm relations with India will help to safeguard the people of Dominica. “Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to India and said, “Thanks to the kindness of the Indian nation, 35,000 Dominicans will be vaccinated by April 2021.”

Earlier, PM wrote a letter to Indian PM Narendra Modi to procure enough doses of the Covishield COVID-19 vaccine – a vaccine of Oxford AstraZeneca. Skipping the queue of over 92 countries, Dominica and Barbados procured enough amount of consignments that can immune a large number of population.

According to the surveys, these vaccines are enough to immune over 50% population of Dominica.

During the weekly show Anou Pale, PM promised to his public, By April government of Dominica will get enough doses of vaccine that can be garnered by every adult in the nation.

And keeping the promise, the COVID-19 vaccines arrived on the land of Dominica. He always considers himself as a ‘Man of his words’ and continues to do so.

Lately, PM Skerrit announced that he will be unquestionably taking the COVID-19 vaccine once available in the country and not only he would wait for his turn after the frontline workers, he also said that no one is forced to take the vaccine. It is up to the person if he/she wants it.

As PM Skerrit said earlier, ‘We can limit coronavirus,’ and getting the population vaccinated is the primary step of limiting the lethal COVID-19.

There are a total of 11 active and 110 recoveries from coronavirus cases in Dominica.

India always helped Dominica. In the year 2017, when the nation was suffering from the adversities of Hurricane, India donated US$ 1 million for foundation and re-construction in Dominica under India’s UNDP Fund in consequence of Hurricane Maria.

India and Dominica established ambassadorial relations in the year 1981. India’s Department of Agricultural Research& Education (DARE) and Dominica’s Division of Agriculture contracted MoU for cooperation in education and experimentation in agriculture and allied areas in October 2011.
