Dominica: Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit shared a glimpse of a meeting with Weaver Prosper of Vieille Case on July 19, 2022 (Tuesday) on social media.
Prosper is a Chief Warrant Officer with the United States Army and an expert on renewable energy.
PM Skerrit mentioned, “It was a real pleasure to catch up with my old friend Weaver Prosper of Vieille Case, Chief Warrant Officer with the United States Army and an expert on renewable energy.”
He further lauded Weaver for his achievements and his work as a part of the US Army Corps of Engineers. Prime Minister stated, “Weaver has done well for himself as part of the US Army Corps of Engineers, and I am extremely proud of his achievements.”
He added, “I took the opportunity to tap into his extensive knowledge as Dominica advances the development of its geothermal resources.”
This meeting witnessed the discussion on renewable energy and geothermal power plant. The government of Dominica has been working relentlessly to reduce its carbon footprint and dependency on non-renewable sources. The country has been witnessing the construction of a geothermal power plant which would ensure that the plant would make sure that the country will be powered by renewables, reducing energy costs and carbon emissions while simultaneously creating jobs. The power plant is expected to be operational by the year 2023 and will provide electricity to the French islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe, which in turn will encourage foreign exchange.
Dominica is the perfect location to build geothermal energy as it is brimming with hot springs, geysers, and volcanic activity where the Earth is particularly hot just below the surface. Wells are drilled at the geothermal power plant site. These are one or two miles deep into the Earth to pump steam or hot water to the surface.
