Dominica: Cuban govt honours PM Skerrit with Order of José Martí
Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit received the Order of José Martí from Cuban Government on April 26, 2022.

Dominica: Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit received the Order of José Martí on April 26, 2022 (Tuesday). The award was presented to the Prime Minister during his visit to the neighbouring Latin American country – Cuba.
The award was given by the Government of the Republic of Cuba during a ceremony.
The Order of José Martí is Cuba’s highest state recognition given to nationals and Heads of States and Governments who have distinguished records in the defence of human rights and have made special contributions to education, culture, governance and wellbeing of all peoples.
The award is named for José Martí, a poet and writer lauded as a nationalist, philosopher, activist and humanitarian. He is known as the ‘Apostle of Cuban Independence.’
“Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit, received the Order of José Martí from the Government of the Republic of Cuba on Tuesday, April 26,” the Government of Dominica informed.
After receiving the award, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit expressed pleasure and thanked the Government of Cuba for honouring him with their highest national recognition award.
“I am honoured to recieve the Order of José Martí, Cuba’s highest national recognition, conferred on Tuesday, April 26, 2022,” Dr Skerrit mentioned.
He further lauded the country and termed it a true friend of Dominica. He also expressed pride in the Cuban Association.
“Cuba has been a true and steadfast friend of Dominica, and I am proud to associate with the Cuban ideals and principles of peace, dignity, freedom, self-determination, justice, equity and a generosity, which always seeks to improve the condition of people everywhere,” Prime Minister took social media and stated.
He further extended thanks to his well-wishers. His thanks message read, “Thank you for your support and well wishes.”
Currently, Prime Minister is on a three-day trip to Cuba. He landed in Cuba on April 25, 2022 (Sunday).
