Direct flight from Miami landed in Dominica

Roseau: A historic day witnessed by Dominica as the direct commercial flight 3579 from Miami, United States, landed at the Douglas-Charles Airport at around 3:18 pm on December 8, 2021. A total of 72 passengers were on board in this direct flight. 

American Airlines commenced a nonstop flight service to the Commonwealth of Dominica on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit wrote on his Facebook post, “This is a game-changer for our island’s tourism industry, allowing for direct access from the United States mainland. The convenient movement of people is sure to positively impact growth in tourism activity, business and trade relations“. 

The prime minister furthermore thanked American airlines for this historic collaboration adding that the Dominican government is looking forward to a long-withstanding and mutually beneficial partnership. 

This opening of direct flight will eventually boost the tourism sector of the Caribbean island, strengthening its GDP. 

On the other hand, the Health Minister of Dominica, Dr Irving Mcintyre, stated, “Greetings everyone! It was indeed a pleasure to witness this momentous occasion in Dominica’s history as we welcomed American Airlines direct flights to our Nature Isle”. 

“This is a major milestone that will benefit our nationals and visitors as we can now connect to over forty cities around the world”.

While the residents have also expressed their happiness over this huge historical moment, one of the users commented on the post of PM Skerrit, “Thanks to this new route. I can get a round trip ticket from Toronto to Dominica via Miami for $688 CDN in January 2022. This is awesome. No more express des Ile from St Lucia to get to Dominica. This is an awesome price. I have not seen these ticket prices in AGES. I am smiling away”.
