Trinidad & Tobago: Prime Minister Keith Rowley made an appearance in casual wear on the final day of the Canada-CARICOM Summit, standing with a very formally dressed Canadian PM Justin Trudeau on Thursday, which made other questions about his attire.
Prime Minister Keith Rowley was all ready to travel to the Canada-CARICOM summit, so he slipped into casual attire before being roped into an international press conference.
This is the reason that yesterday, Ronald Sanders- Antigua and Barbuda Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States of America (USA) and the Organisation of American States (OAS) came out in defence of Rowley’s attire.
Ronald Sanders supported PM Rowley
He posted a message on his Facebook page yesterday in the context of saving PM Rowley with a clarification for what he was called that the offensive and regrettable comments did highly injustice to PM Rowley.
Furthermore, he added that Prime Minister Rowley was a formidable voice at the Canada-CARICOM meeting on the issues that are important to the people as a region.
Notably, Ronald Sanders could witness this because he was sitting just next to Dr Rowley at all the sessions of the meeting.
Prime Minister Rowley figured out a finding from the United National Congress (UNC) and other locals on social media. The criticism had gone to an extent where some people accused him of embarrassing the country.
PM Skerrit of Dominica, who co-chaired the summit along with Canadian PM Trudeau, was not available during the end of the conference media appearance as he had left early because of the prospect of Hurricane Tammy hitting his country.
This led to the circumstances where Prime Minister Rowley was pressed into the service at the last minute in the absence of PM Skerrit, and he was not even drafted a prior notice.
Although Dr Rowley had dressed to leave the hotel for the multiple aeroplane journeys, he managed to make his presence in the meeting. This Should be lauded, not criticised.
Andy Knight- Professor of International Relations and co-founder of the Diplomatic Academy of the Caribbean, advised citizens to focus on the substance of the meeting instead of PM Rowley’s attire.
He added that it is still not confirmed under which circumstances the Prime Minister was forced to dress casually, and this is not a matter of talk. People should focus on the agenda and outcome of the issues discussed in the meeting.
