Georgetown, Guyana: The Ministry of Labour of the Republic of Guyana has expressed heartfelt pride over the success of the health walk organised to celebrate World Child Labour 2023.
As per the latest update shared by the Ministry, it has once again held a successful Child Labour Walk to honour Child Labour Month 2023, this time in Region Six (6).
The Ministry has further announced the success was touched with around 300 participants walking in support of increasing awareness of Child Labour and its negative impacts.
Representatives from the Labour and Human Services and Social Security Ministries, Rose Hall Town Municipality, New Amsterdam Technical Institute, GuySuCo Training Centre, and six (6) Government schools, among others, took part in the walk, which began today at the Rose Hall Town Police Outpost and ended at the New Spready’s Tarmac in Port Mourant, according to the update shared on social media.
Reportedly, Dhaneshwar Deonarine, Chief Labour Officer of the Ministry of Labour, Emmanuel Ramdhial, Marcia Foster, Child Protection Agency representative, Ministry of Human Services and Social Security, and other officials were among the participants of the Child Labour Walk.
As per the reports, the major focus of the Ministry remained on the practice of child labour in collaboration with private and public organisations. “Remarks were made about the ministry’s comprehensive plan to effectively address and eliminate child labour through collaboration with public and private institutions,” the Ministry mentioned.
It added that this strategy complements the government’s existing programmes to guarantee that the nation’s youths grow into productive citizens.
This year’s Child Labour Month was celebrated under the theme – “Social Justice for All. End Child Labour.”
