The Caribbean Airlines Customer Centre of Trinidad received a call regarding a bomb threat for Guyana’s airport, Cheddi Jagan International Airport. The security officials of both nations were alerted following the bomb threat call.
As per the details, this call is expected to originate from Guyana because the man who called indicated that he was calling from Guyana and warned of a life-and-death situation. The man who made a call regarding a bomb threat claimed to be a part of a group that planned against the airline and the airport.
He further added that he is no longer a part of the group and wanted to warn the authorities about the situation.
Following the incident, the Caribbean Airlines issued a statement which states that they received a threat call on Sunday, 1st September 2024 on a call centre in Trinidad. It also added that the threat was not made against the airline.
Moreover, the telephone companies which are operating in Guyana have also been asked to assist with the investigation process in order to trace the call. Also, the police authorities of the country are also conducting a thorough investigation into the matter in order to find out the person behind the threat call.
Notably, in the last week as well, a threat call was issued against the Marriott Hotel in Georgetown which was later investigated by the authorities and it turned out to be a prank. There has been no arrest in the case currently but the authorities have promised to find the culprit behind this.
The country’s authorities noted that if it is a prank call, they need to find the person behind it. Such prank calls pose a serious threat to emergency services, putting several lives at risk. They noted that they can leave citizens feeling anxious, vulnerable, and violated.
They also added that there are certain incidents, such as falsely reporting serious emergencies, hostage situations, or bomb threats, which not only waste valuable resources of the authorities and law enforcement time but also can lead to serious injuries or fatalities.
Following the incident, citizens took to their social media accounts and shared their views through their comments. One person stated “I also received a call initially about my workplace so the authorities need to find out who is behind all of this.”
Another person commented “This is definitely prank call. What problems such people have, I don’t get.”
